When Kruwoski says, “the marginal-the rejected-the repressed-is whatever the powerful have decided is of no use at the moment.” Hes trying to tell us that as the days pass by things change in the world an there are advancements made in alot if things such as music and technology. Like back in the day in order to get music you would have to go get cds at stores and music wasnt available like it is today online. Today music is available on apple music, spotify, and youtube because back then this luxury wasnt available.

The big difference that Krukowski affirms between being surprised by the music is like listening to songs that we have not heard before. When we listen to a song for the first time we often are surprised at what we are hearing. Since we have never heard it before we feel out of place cause we arent acustomed to listening to that. And then when we are discovering music we know what we are getting ourselves into so we arent that shocked or surprised by what we hear.

Forced Exposures is different from other platforms because it helps you explore different music and artists. It provides you with different songs to choose from. However on a app like spotify there is an algorithm put into place that gives you and recommends you songs that you like or are similar to songs you have listened to.

Ralph Ellison talks about how hearing and listening to music was almost everyday thing in his nyc apartment. Ellison describes himself as constantly under the attack of noise as hes in his apartment. One of his neighbors would play music and it brought him back to when he was a kid and played instruments.  When he moved away he realized how much he missed hearing his neighbors music.  When he says “In those days it was either live with music or die with noise” he is trying to say that music was such a common thing back then that you expected to be listening to music everyday as it became a part of everyday life. Ellisons essay and Damon Krukowski’s Ways Of Hearing have some similarities, one of them is the importance of sound which carries over to the aspect of listening to that sound. In Ellisons case its listening to music and growing up around it for him.

  1. The main differences between hearing and listening is that when your hearing stuff your not really like paying attention and understanding whats happening. For instance if your just hearing 2 people talk your just probably hearing it go through one ear and out the either. While when your listening your actually listening close to someones conversation and your understanding and analyzing what those 2 people are saying. When your listening i feel like your more engaged in what your doing, but hearing and listening work together.

2. Schafer and Krukowski identify a relationship between space and sound. They identify that music and the sound of it is an instrumental part of alot of things. They believe that music and sound is sometimes produced by emotion and sometimes by noise. Schafer believes that sound is not just a product of the culture and environment around you but its a reflection of everything that goes on around you and how your hearing all the noise around you. They also found out that analyzing soundscape was a much harder task than anything.

Berger feels that white publications would depict black people in a negative way, and that white journalistic exploitation of photos reinforced white domination. I agree with berger when he says black people are shown in a negative way in photographs. I believe this has carried over as a race issue throughout many decades as racism still exists today and is one of the worlds biggest problems. I do believe that photographs benefited white people as they had reassurance in those photographs, while black people on the other werent given that same reassurance.

  1.  According to berger he says advertisements influence people to chase their dreams and what they want. I do agree with what hes saying as a consumer thats out shopping seeing an advertisement for any item you desire youre going to get attracted to that advertisement sign. The image that you see will most of the time if not all the time catch your eye and influence you to buy whatever product youre seeing. The advertisement can be seen outside on a billboard or can be seen on tv.

2. The differences behind the theme of oil paintings vs publicity is important because they show us the difference between what we see in front of us and what we see in a fantasy world. When you fantasizing about something its usually your doing it because of something out of the ordinary, but when your not thinking in a fantasy world your living in the real life. When you see the advertisements you see those people with high end products so you fantasize about it and think if you had what they had you will be happier. But in most cases that dosent happen as usually people end up getting a reality check.

3. The dream of far away place for me was like a representation of wanting something that is out of my control and that isnt just realistic. Someone like me has always seen big twitch streamers blow up and get famous and make streaming a career for them, Seeing that though is all a misconception because they worked hard to where they are right now. I always thought that they blew up just quick without any hard work but i was misconceived.

In the era of renaissance paintings of women back them had women be sexualized in a lot of the work that was being put out by the artists. Berger believes that women have been sexualized since the renaissance era and still are being sexualized to this day. Berger even asks the audience ” Who is looking at the women and of these people looking at the women what are they in fact looking at. These paintings were put in certain angles and positions so it could draw the audiences attention when they are viewing what is presented to them. The people who would view these nude paintings had sexual intent while viewing them. Back in the renaissance era women didnt have the right to decline weather they wanted to be nude. Nude women back then were used to sell products such as clothes or beauty cosmetics. I believe in todays age women have complete control over their body and what they want to wear and post. but i still believe women are still being sexualized today even though they can wear whatever they want. No matter what a girl posts on social media or if shes walking in the street wearing moderate clothing she will be sexualized, its the sad truth but its just something i believe wont change because majority of men when they think of women think of them in a sexual way. So what berger was saying many years ago still applies today.

According to Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein, writers should use entering the conversation in their writing. One of the advantages of doing this is that you are forced to listen to what others are saying if you want to enter a conversation. Hearing other peoples point of view is one of the most crucial things in becoming a successful writer. Hearing other peoples point of views makes you analyze their words and everything that’s coming out of their mouth. Another advantage that entering the conversation as a writer offers is that you are respectfully agreeing and disagreeing with the people around you which can lead to very interesting and intriguing discussions. This also makes the writer have his written piece more organized.

I feel like learning to look at artwork does help you analyze other situations, as i feel as looking at artwork makes you analyze what is in front of you. An important factor of analyzing different situations is analyzing the situation piece by piece. Looking at artwork forces you to look at it from different angles and different perspectives so you can truly see the message that is behind the art work.
